Bio Info
Dr. Settumba Mukasa is an Associate Professor, School of Agricultural Sciences, Makerere University. Over the last 15 years, he has taught both undergraduate and postgraduate courses including Plant Genetics, Biotechnology, and Plant Virology. He has supervised to completion 20 MSc and 8 PhD student theses. Currently, he is supervising 8 MSc and 6 PhD students. He has published widely, over 50 papers in various peer reviewed international journals and a reviewer to a number of scientific journals. He has actively carried out research and led a number of biotechnology research projects in Uganda, and projects involving international partners. He is the In-Charge, Makerere University Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory at Kabanyolo. His research interest is in developing sustainable quality seed systems particularly for vegetatively propagated crops. This makes him interested in developing capacity in disease diagnostics and protocols for production and dissemination of virus-free planting material of vegatively propagated crops like banana, cassava, potato, and sweetpotato as well as evaluating appropriate varieties for the farming communities. He is the Principal Investigator for the Cassava CARP Project (October 2014 – September 2018) that is focusing on “Developing a community-based cassava seed system for increased productivity and market linkages in Uganda” at Makerere University.
